we still use a oil primer oil satin or gloss sometimes and a oil undercoat on everything woodwork metalwork related interior and exterior in the uk your water based woodwork paints must be a lot better than ours. with plasterboard it is better to prime it with a oil based alkali resisting primer to give it a much harder base acts like a plaster it drys that tough

I watched your video again and I am currently at 3/4 of the house is finished. When I painted with my mother she insisted on the paint brush because she did not want stipple left on the flat siding. Well I have to be honest, that stipple on the siding cannot be seen unless you get really close, like with readers, and I don't mind it at all! I still have to use a brush to go into the grooves but I have to say the roller is my new best friend when painting! My neighbor is a professional painter and he told me that they use a roller pretty much all the time anymore. Depending on how much you load the roller, it also seems like I am applying a thicker coat to the siding, where the brush is much less! I want a thicker coat since it is on the exterior and I always do two coats of paint, so I am happy! Thank you for your video!

We just replaced our roof and I noticed there are water marks on the ceiling. I’m dreading we might have to cut it out and put up new sheet rock because in the past, no matter how many times we painted over watermarks, it still comes through. But after watching this video, I’m going to try this blocker spray and hope it works!

First Class I started rock climbing in '72, and never got rid of the gear. I throw a half full water bottle over the roof, with a dry line attached, and easily pull up a rope. Usually there is somewhere to tie it off to, like the hitch on my car. But I also kept and old 5 gal compressor that I filled with sand, and I can roll it anywhere I need a counterweight. This is a homeowner thing, because pros won't take the time, and also, if you did ever fall, you could damage the peak of the roof. I don't care, I did the shingles also.

I use to own a painting machine that fed paint to a roller and I used it inside my house and I believe it worked well, the things I didn't like was the clean up and the amount of paint wasted when cleaning out the machine. I was just wondering however, if that machine might help you and speed up the painting even more by not having to even dip the roller. Now I am wondering how fast a job could get done and done well by two people, one rolling and the other tipping (I think that is the term you used) with the brush. Just something else to ponder! My mother and I last painted her house 18 years ago after my father died. We painted every inch with a 1 1/2 inch brush and put on two 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of paint and it took 3 months. This year, I do it alone but I am using a roller and brush, I began today! Pray for me cause I need it!

A real pro never paints out of the can paint comes in….buy yourself a wide mouthed 1 gallon paint pot …..way easier to dip the brush, especially if your using a 3 inch or bigger brush . And much more comfortable to hold with non brushing hand… gonna wear that thumb out holding like that..try it…it’s a world of difference…

Rick I love your review of this brush. I am a 43 years seasoned veteran painter. I recently bought the exact blush and it is meant for smooth surfaces. They also make a general purpose brush and an exterior brush. There's a lot of truth that brush doesn't leave much marks. And it is also stiff like you said and works the material into the Contours of the substrate. There's also a lot of Truth to the fact that you mentioned it takes some getting used to. That's because it's not your regular brush I also noticed that it takes half as many strokes to achieve the same results as with most brushes. It's fast and accurate. I too painted an interior six-panel door and was able to brush it out in 6 minutes flat. Then I went ahead and tried the general purpose brush which is all blue and was able to paint a six-panel door in 4 and 1/2 minutes. I have always painted six panel doors in the fashion that you were doing but I did something different this time. I painted 100% of the door from the bottom up left to right and I didn't worry about brushstrokes showing on opposite grain because the brush didn't leave any brush Strokes or roping . Those brushes blew my mind. When I went to do the other side of the door it took me 5 minutes. Like you said they take a little getting used to it's nothing like any other brush. You mentioned you use the brush exterior and was very satisfied and that was also because of the fact that you were getting used to it. How often would you attempt to use an interior brush exterior. Reciently I have been doing carpentry but I can't wait to get back to just painting so I can use my new brushes and have new personal best. BTW this is the first time I seen one of your videos I'm going to check out your Channel 10 to 1 I will subscribe and tell a bunch of fellow painters. Keep up the good work Rick. Aloha John😊
